Hot Springs

Hot spa across from elephant camp
(Huai Mak Liam hot spa)

(nothing to compete with Chiang Mai's Sankampaeng Hot Springs, but only sometimes with a sulfurous smell):

PK Hot Spa Resort - on the Kok River off 1233 well past Mae Fah Luang Royal Garden. Nice riverside restaurant, B600 rooms.

Huai Mak Liam H.S. and Forest Park - 4 km past Ban Ruam Mit on the other (south) side of the river, near Akha Hill Guest House. Sometimes flooded, but often pleasant enough. There's rooms to rent with old bathtubs (B10), a mixed water lake (free), and snack shops. Just by an almost boiling lake is another, cool, normal one.

Ban Poang Phrabaht Hot Spring (Ban Du)-west from Hwy 1 by Ban Kuk (just north of the airport road at k835). Private rooms with showers B20 plus B10 per person, half-hour limit. Herbal ointments available. Out front is a geyser looking like a public shower. Clean enough (at least by Carribbean standards). The water is so hot it must be mixed with cold.

Before Laan Tong Village (world's biggest gong) is a small hot-spring resort, Mae Chan H.S., by Ban Huai Hin Fon, south of 1089, at k77 (8 km from Mae Jan on Huay Infon-Pangsu Rd.), where one can see how the hot springs operate (some sulfur smell, hardly top-class).

Poang Nam Ron - Hwy 1089 km 79. Outside only. Several restaurants, stone fensing, no place to shower off. Hotsprings are named for their locality only, and perhaps as Nam Pu Ron.

Saikhao Falls and Hot Springs - just south of km794 on Hwy 1, or off Rt. 1190 just south of k65 on 118, by Weng Doi Cottege and Ban Sob Poang west of 118 at k91, just south of Wiang Pa Pao, by Rt 1150 and B. Foei Hai. Lisu area.

Pong Nam Rawn (Baw Nam Ron) by Mae Suai, at the tourist trap on Hwy 118 - very sulfurous. 3 cement and stone well-like structures, 2-4 meters wide, with shallow, very hot water. Across the road one can rent small, not too clean rooms with ugly stone tubs and cold showers, B20. Near Ban SobPoang (and Wiang Doi Cottage), at Rt 118 K65, is another, and yet another past Charin Garden Resort, northeast of Mae Suai.

Tung Ta Wi - Off Hwy 118, on Route 1150, between Wieng Papao and Mae Khachan.
