December to mid January: sometimes close to freezing late at night, sometimes up to the low 80s F. during the day (28 deg. C). It's coldest during the holiday season.

Temperatures begin rising in February, mid-day becoming too hot for the several layers of clothing winter demands. The climate's usually pleasant until the end of March.

March to May is the Hot Season, 17-36 C (63-97 F). There's a week with artificial iced rain during Songkran! April brings some high winds from the northeast, at up to 30 knots.

May to October is the Rainy Season (Monsoon). Sometimes a foot (20 cm) will fall in a 8 to 10 hour period, causing brief flooding. If the rivers get too high, the flooding can last 2 or 3 days. Tropical storms come in from the coast of Vietnam in August and September, bringing cooler air. 10 to 15 km winds are common, but usually there's only a very light breeze. In the first half of the Rainy Season it rains a few hours on half to 2/3 of the days (140 to 190 mm/month); in the second half the tropical depressions bring 2 or 3 day rains, and there's rain as many as 25 days a month (240 to 290 mm/month). 85% humidity is common then. At the height of the rainy season, it sometimes rains for hours, once or twice daily, weeks on end. In Sept. 2001 it rained 545 mm, then not at all in November that year. May 2001 was unusual, with 643 mm rain. Feb. 2001 had no rain. Rainfall in 1999 ranged from 14.4mm in February to 469.2mm in August. There were only a couple very light sprinkles in Feb., 2002, but it then rained for a week in usually dry March!

Late October to early December is the Nice Season. Humidity will vary from about 30 to 80%. Until it gets cold, nights are pleasant indeed. Although people now produce much pollution, here mostly through their motor vehicles, the air is cleaned by the abundant vegetation and ample rainfall, and is often cool.
